For Top, Laning alone makes up 30% of OVR. Top is the only role with this much weight on a single stat, so how fast you raise Laning decides when you can join a pro team. This article covers the order for developing a Top laner, gear and perk choices.
The Stat Ratios That Make Up OVR
| Stat | Ratio | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Laning | 30% | The most important. Each +1 raises OVR by 0.3. |
| Teamfights | 20% | The second most important. |
| Mental | 15% | Top is easily isolated, so Mental has a high weight. |
| Champion Pool | 15% | Needed to handle matchups. |
| Mechanics | 12% | Moderate. |
| Vision & Macro | 8% | The lowest. |
Laning and Teamfights together make up half of OVR. Vision & Macro is only 8%, so you don’t need to train it until the other stats are high enough.
Training Priorities
- Laning: put about 40% of your season’s training here. For the same number of sessions its weight is the largest, so OVR rises fastest.
- Teamfights: second most. Train it alternately with Laning.
- Mental and Champion Pool: 15% each, so split the remaining sessions between them.
- Mechanics, Vision & Macro: raise them slowly at the end.
However, the lower a stat, the better training works. If you keep raising only one stat, its gains slow down at some point, so when your most lagging stat is 20 or more behind your key stat, it’s efficient to raise it once in a while.
Gear and Seasonal Items
- Keyboard: raises Laning and Teamfight training efficiency. For Top it is the best gear, helping the two stats that make up 50% of OVR at once. Start from tier 1 at ₩3M and upgrade as your finances allow.
- 1:1 Personal Coach: all training +20%. Top’s training is concentrated on Laning and Teamfights, so it’s worth using every growth-year season.
- Dedicated Analyst: it only boosts Vision & Macro and Champion Pool training, so it’s low value for Top. Use it only when you want to raise the 15% Champion Pool weight.
Perk Recommendations
You earn a perk by repeating the same training 24 times. As a Top, aim for Laning Master (Laning ×24) first. It gives Laning training efficiency +12% and team strength +0.3 at once. Laning has such a high weight that training piles up naturally, so you get it fastest. Next, Fight Architect (Teamfights ×24) gives the same effect (+12%, team strength +0.3). Iron Mind (Mental ×24) raises your chance of blocking bad random events (losing-streak slump, wrist pain, burnout) by 20 percentage points.
Example Season Routine (ages 14–17)
An example of running the 10 weeks with a 3-week pattern (2 training, 1 rest) that keeps condition at 55 or above.
- Weeks 1–3: Laning, Laning, Rest
- Weeks 4–6: Teamfights, Laning, Rest
- Weeks 7–9: Mental, Champion Pool, Rest
- Week 10: Laning
This fits 4 Laning, 1 Teamfight, 1 Mental and 1 Champion Pool session into a season. Once your gear is in place, swap rest for solo queue grinding to cut condition cost and add more training sessions.
Late Career and Aging
Top’s Mechanics weight is 12%, so the Mechanics decline starting at 26 has little effect. Instead, a Laning stat that reached 90 or higher can fall hard all at once from 27. Training efficiency drops as Laning nears its peak, so late in your career it’s best to protect your condition with the medical team and dorm, and keep your OVR up with Mental and Champion Pool.
